Welcome to the Hesser College Office of Residence Life

Residential Life, notably one of the most distinctive experiences for any college student at Hesser College, is unique in many aspects. The Residence Life staff seeks to foster a supportive residential living environment where residents are enabled to develop meaningful relationships with a diverse population. In accomplishing its educational mission, Hesser College aspires to create and maintain the necessary standards that are conducive to student learning.

The mission of the Office of Residence Life at Hesser College is to support residents in cultivating a meaningful living, learning community in a safe, secure, and comfortable living space. To promote and to provide a purposeful experiential program fostering student leadership, promoting human rights and individual responsibility where residents develop essential life and interpersonal skills, self responsibility, and an appreciation for education.

The Residence Life staff work closely with residents in providing the best living experience. In addition, living on campus provides students with greater interaction with professors, academics, athletics, and student leaders as the learning experience extends beyond the classroom.

Resident Assistants

Typically the staff members you will get to know best, RAs, are student staff that live on wings or floors of the residence hall. They have specific community development, programming and administrative responsibilities, but most of all, they are an outstanding resources for you. They are experienced students who have been selected for their skills and have been trained to be an important link between you and the things you will experience as a student. Please make the time to get to know your RA. They are here to celebrate the successes we hope you have, and to help you work through the challenges you may face.

Campus Involvement
Whether your interests are social, academic, athletic or personal, Hesser College has something for everyone. Not only do clubs and organizations enhance campus life at the Hesser College, they provide students with a great way to build skills, get connected to campus, and make long lasting friendships. For more information on organizations and getting involved, contact the Office of Student Services and Lisa Houck at extension 2169 to check out the list of registered student organizations.

Housing Assignments

The Office of Residence Life uses a matching system based on your housing application questionnaire, hall preferences, date the application is received and available space to assign residents rooms. New residents are often paired with other new residents and meet for the first time on campus.

Living in the residence hall is an important and exciting part of college life. Whether you know your roommate or are meeting for the first time, living with another person is difficult at times. Open, honest, and constant communication is the key to a successful roommate relationship. Often it is difficult to talk about differences when you and your roommate are first trying to get to know each other. If you intend to live together happily, you need to realize and resolve your personal differences early in the semester. The first step is to begin talking about the things you value about your lifestyles, so that you can find out where differences exist.

There are a limited number of single rooms available in some, but not all, wings of the residence hall. We encourage you to apply early if you would like to request a single room. Single rooms are not normally relegated to freshman students. Students with special needs should contact the Office of Residence Life prior to the start of residency.
